Day One: Sydney to Siem Reap

Our group gathered at 5am at Sydney International Airport to prepare for departure on the College's ninth annual service trip. After checking in at Singapore Airlines, we said our final goodbyes and joined the long queue for customs. Some of our group received special treatment through security, with Mr Fowler being subjected to the x-ray scanner, a body frisk and then testing for explosives residue! A suspicious looking character!

Some managed a quick bite of Macca's before we headed off to our departure gate for boarding. Hardly surprisingly, our group occupied the back rows of our flight and we had an incident free trip from Sydney to Singapore. On arrival at Singapore, we experienced some of the more humid conditions, while still confined to the airport. We transferred to Terminal Two using the sky train and had time to explore the shops and grab a snack or coffee before getting ready for our flight to Siem Reap.

The inflight entertainment on the flight from Singapore to Siem Reap was not as sophisticated as what we had experienced with Singapore Airlines, so our group got out the uno cards, books, iPads and iPhones to play various games, etc.

We arrived safely in Siem Reap and were greeted by our tour guide from Wendy Wu Tours, Mr Ly. He will be with us for our whole time in Cambodia. We were also very impressed with our coach which is very comfortable and spacious.

On arrival at our hotel we were greeted with a welcome drink, a type of iced tea, and we settled into our very spacious and well appointed rooms. After what has been a long day of travel, it was decided not to go out to dinner, but to buy some snack foods that will last the next couple of days and then get to bed.

We have an early start in the morning as we visit the temples of Angkor Wat.
